FOCUS LAUREN GREENFIELD
ROMANIAN PREMIERE
Kids + Money
USA, 2008, 33’
Lauren Greenfield returns to her native Los Angeles to take the pulse of a generation nurtured in the principles of overconsumption, showing-off, and vulgar materialism. Born of the extremes of poverty and wealth that define the Los Angeles landscape, teens of both sexes, from all shades of the social spectrum, offer unconstrained and spontaneous answers on their relationship with money. A series of brisk and breezy portraits that capture a budding – and gloomy – change: a money-thirsty childhood is a contradiction in terms.
Best Night Ever
USA, 2012, 7’
Returning to Las Vegas, a favorite location of Greenfield’s that is also central to the plot of The Queen of Versailles, she made this short documentary about “Marquee,” one of the country’s highest-grossing nightclubs, where the clientele routinely spend thousands of dollars on a single evening out.
Magic City
USA, 2015, 27’
Welcome to “Magic City,” a legendary strip club where dreams are made, whether for the dancers seeking fame and fortune, the rappers using it as a platform to the big time, or the ballers making it rain. Lauren Greenfield takes us into the heart of Atlanta’s sexiest music factory.
